Running a football tournament

Blitz-style football days usually run group stage into a knockout. If you only have a few hours, a straight knockout with a third-place playoff keeps every team to a known finish time.

Draws are common in football, so decide before kick-off how knockout ties are settled — extra time, straight to penalties, or the higher seed advances.
